They say it takes a village to raise a child, but we at UHS also know it takes a village to build a school. No one in our community embodies that village better than Rebecca McGregor.
Recruited by founders Louis and Wendy Costa long before her daughter attended UHS, Rebecca was the link between University High School and the community of Fresno as the Community Member of the Board of Directors for 6 years. In that capacity she was a passionate voice for the vision of a school combining the arts and academics and she helped to establish the mission and policies that would define UHS. She also served as the parent liaison between the Board of Directors to the parent association of Phoenix Alliance.
During her 10 years of involvement she was a tireless advocate of University High School, whether it be speaking at the CSUF Summer Arts Program to recruit students for UHS, convincing Art Dyson to design something special for us, buttonholing John Welty at University events, or holding many social and fundraising events in her home to gather support in every way for this school. Truly a "founding mother," Rebecca's dedicated service is an inspiration to us all, and to perpetuate our thanks to her, Phoenix Alliance is establishing an annual recognition of exceptional parent service, the Rebecca McGregor Service Award. |
