Congratulations to the UHS Varsity Tennis Team The first UHS Womens Varsity Tennis Team defeated 5 California High schools and tied a 6th at this weekend's Peachtree Tournament (96 high schools competed) landing them 2nd place in their division!!
Congratulations to team members : Alex Larralde, Dani Roberts, Margot Brulard, Kathryn McGregor, Katie Plunkett, Haley Woolf, Hannah Plunkett, Megan Baugh, Claire Jaramishian, Jackie Tung, and Sally Larson.

UHS Swim Team Last month, the UHS swim team made their presence known at the Clovis West Invite and the team continued to do the same at the Division II CIF Championships held in Bakersfield this past weekend. Both Aubrey and Genevieve swam extremely well and posted personal best times. Aubrey started off the day by taking 2nd place in the 200 Individual Medley and a short time later, Genevieve followed up with a fifth place in the 50 Freestyle. Later in the day, both of the girls competed in the 100 Breaststroke recording times that placed Genevieve in 2nd and Aubrey in 3rd. Congratulations to both girls for representing UHS swimming this year and we are all looking forward to a bright future. |

Congratulations to the UHS Academic Decathlon Team Congratulations to the University High School Academic Decathlon team for winning its second consecutive Small School Virtual National Championship. The team won by an impressive margin of 2,500 points and was led by Kevin Chen, David Matushita, Vitaliy Goncharenko, Ryan Watts, Zachary Bernel and Michael Salcedo. The team would like to thank all who helped, especially Mr. Gile for proctoring the testing. |

| JCL Congratulations to all the students who attended this year's state convention. UHS took 3rd place for overall score (medium school division)-our highest placement ever! We also had students who placed in academics, music, and sports. Josh Roberts and Ethan Catsro placed FIRST in the Battle of the Bands, while Max Krongaus, Jiro Egawa, Brian Arellano, and Jon Chu placed THIRD. Erin Yeagle, Merle Groneweg, and Taylor Ashlock had SECONDS and Honorable Mentions in academic tests/competitions. Aspen Flynn, Hannah Ruble, Judy Farrow, and Rianna Issac placed FIRST in the girls 4x400. Lastly, Byron Walker, Matt Lennon, Tim Pilegard, Zaven Ohanian, and Ethan Castro entered every boys running race they could and took a SECOND place in the boys 4x400 and were very close in several other races. Mrs. Phannophob and Mrs. Downer are very proud of all our students who attended this year. |

Congratulations to the Academic Decathlon Team that competed at the county-wide competition on the Fresno State campus on February 2. The team finished a
strong 2nd out of 24 schools, and is in the running for a qualifying spot for the state
championship. In addition, Kevin Chen beat out over 300 students to win the top scorer in
the county, and $2,500! The entire team took home a total of $4,500.

Three in a row - Chess Team Takes 1st Place!!! The Chess team took first place
in the November 17th Sequoia Chess for Kids tournament at Manchester Gate. Jiro Egawa with 4.5 wins took second place individually. |

The Chess Team brought home their second First Place trophy this year from the 2007 Mendota Chess For Kids Tournament held at McCabe School on October 27th.
Out of the 36 competitors in the High School Division, UHS took the Top Three individual places - Jiro placed First ( 5.0 undefeated), Diego placed Second (4.0), Aaron placed Third (4.0), and Neil received an Honorable Mention(3.0).

Congratulations to the UHS Chess Team for winning first place in the 7th-12th Grade Division at the 2007 Porterville Chess for Kids Tournament held at Monache High School on October 13. The UHS Chess Team members that competed were Neil Cusick, Jiro Egawa, Dhiraj Holden, Aaron Rapp, Joseph Soleno, and Joshua Soleno.
Individual trophies were also awarded to Jiro Egawa (Third Place winning 4 out of 5 games); Aaron Rapp (Sixth Place winning 3.5 games); and Neil Cusick (Honorable Mention winning 3 games).
The team was accompanied by parents Freda Soleno and John Weddington. |
