Fresno Pacific University Hosting Financial Aid Workshop
FPU will be hosting a financial aid workshop on Thursday, February 5, 2009 at 6:00 pm in AIMS Hall.
Campus tours and dinner will take place prior to the workshop, beginning at 4:30 pm. Financial Aid and Admissions Counselors will be at hand to answer any questions and to help fill out the FAFSA.
The following is a list of items to bring to the workshop:

Tutors Needed We are in need of peer tutors for our after school Study Hall in room 13 from 3-4:00 p.m. Please come see Mrs. Bird or Mr. Gile if you are interested.
Phantom of the Opera trip
Everyone going on the Phantom trip needs to attend this Mandatory meeting. Monday February 2 at 12:30. I need to confirm you are going, and give out field trip forms. Please be prompt to the meeting as some people have class they need to get to get to at 12:45. Any questions see Mr. Benslay or an ASB officer.
CSF sign-ups Attention all students: California Scholastic Federation (CSF) applications are due by 12:15 PM on Friday, February 13 to Dr. Torrance in person in room 10. SAMMY 2009 Scholarship
America's Milk Processors and USA TODAY are pleased to bring you the 12th annual "Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year" (SAMMY) 2009 Award Program.
This scholarship recognizes outstanding scholar athletes in grade 12 from high schools throughout the U.S.
25 selected winners will receive a $7,500 scholarship and a trip to Disney World Florida, along with a milk mustache ad.

Nominees are judged on five criteria: academic performance (35%), athletic experience (35%), leadership (15%), community service (10%) and milk experience (5%).

Scholarship Program recognizes and rewards young volunteers (ages 6-18) who help make their communities a better place.
CRITERIA: The young person's actions must be described in detail and should document efforts that are above and beyond what is normally expected of a child his or her age. Volunteer efforts should have made a positive impact on others and occurred in the last 12 months. The activity cannot be performed solely to benefit a family member. Winners are selected based on the project chosen, the benefits of the project and the actual outcome of the project. WINNERS/AWARDS: Nominees will be divided into two groups (ages 6-12 and 13-18) More than 2,000 store level winners are expected to receive a $50 Kohl's Gift Card. More than 190 regional winners are expected to be awarded $1,000 scholarships toward their post-secondary education. Ten national winners will receive $5,000 scholarships and Kohl's will donate $1,000 to a nonprofit organization on thier behalf.

Summer Biomedical Research Internship Program! All films were about University High School with more than 25 films submitted for judging.
All films were judged by the UHS faculty.
The winners in the 30-second film category, were as follows:
In first place, with a $100 prize: Jessica Holiday, Cheyenne LeBlanc and Danny Hiebert.
In second place: Aubrey Pongluelert, Alex Webber, Merideth Webb and Jessica Schmaus.
Tied for third place were the individual films by Tim Anderson and Ethan Castro.
In the 1-3 minute film category the winners were:
In first place, with a $100 prize, Ethan Castro.
In second place Erika Albert and Tara Hale.
Tied for third was the film by Mark Ryan, Emily Ong and Ryan Dodd and the film by Jessica Holiday, Cheyenne LeBlanc and Danny Hiebert.

Newspaper Meeting There will be a staff newspaper meeting Tuesday, January 27 at 12:15, LS 169. Please have your drafts ready for editing. The articles should be emailed as well. Intensive studio arts program that offers an introduction to art and design school. Three different programs available:
-FINE ART STUDIO: Focus on Figure Drawing and Painting, Mixed Media, or Digital Photography.
-GRAPHIC NOVEL STUDIO: Explore the cultural implications and creative possibilities of Graphic Novel and Comics Art.
-ILLUSTRATION AND DESIGN STUDIO: Students gain solid, working knowledge of the principles of design.
All students have the option of earning three transferable elective college credits. There is no registration deadline, however, each studio track and the entire porgram may be filled by early May 2009.
Limited merit-based scholarships are available. Scholarship application deadline is March 16, 2009.

The California Association of Collectors is thrilled to announce a scholarship for all California high school seniors for their use at any accredited college, university or vocational school: $2,500 (First Prize), $2,000 (Second Prize), and $1,500 (Third Prize).

Summer Biomedical Research Internship Program! An opportunity for students who are interested in the Biomedical Sciences to participate in basic and clinical research in such fields as surgery reconstruction, radiology, basic bench science, and epidemiology. FPU will be hosting a financial aid workshop on Thursday, February 5, 2009 at 6:00 pm in AIMS Hall.
Campus tours and dinner will take place prior to the workshop, beginning at 4:30 pm. Financial Aid and Admissions Counselors will be at hand to answer any questions and to help fill out the FAFSA.

All films were about University High School with more than 25 films submitted for judging.
All films were judged by the UHS faculty.
The winners in the 30-second film category, were as follows:
In first place, with a $100 prize: Jessica Holiday, Cheyenne LeBlanc and Danny Hiebert.
In second place: Aubrey Pongluelert, Alex Webber, Merideth Webb and Jessica Schmaus.
Tied for third place were the individual films by Tim Anderson and Ethan Castro.
In the 1-3 minute film category the winners were:

Newspaper Meeting There will be a staff newspaper meeting Tuesday, January 27 at 12:15, LS 169. Please have your drafts ready for editing. The articles should be emailed as well. SAMMY 2009 Scholarship
America's Milk Processors and USA TODAY are pleased to bring you the 12th annual "Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year" (SAMMY) 2009 Award Program.
This scholarship recognizes outstanding scholar athletes in grade 12 from high schools throughout the U.S.

The Kohl's Kids Who Care Scholarship
Scholarship Program recognizes and rewards young volunteers (ages 6-18) who help make their communities a better place.
CRITERIA: The young person's actions must be described in detail and should document efforts that are above and beyond what is normally expected of a child his or her age. Volunteer efforts should have made a positive impact on others and occurred in the last 12 months. The activity cannot be performed solely to benefit a family member. Winners are selected based on the project chosen, the benefits of the project and the actual outcome of the project. WINNERS/AWARDS: Nominees will be divided into two groups (ages 6-12 and 13-18) More than 2,000 store level winners are expected to receive a $50 Kohl's Gift Card. More than 190 regional winners are expected to be awarded $1,000 scholarships toward their post-secondary education. FPU will be hosting a financial aid workshop on Thursday, February 5, 2009 at 6:00 pm in AIMS Hall.
Campus tours and dinner will take place prior to the workshop, beginning at 4:30 pm. Financial Aid and Admissions Counselors will be at hand to answer any questions and to help fill out the FAFSA.

America's Milk Processors and USA TODAY are pleased to bring you the 12th annual "Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year" (SAMMY) 2009 Award Program.
This scholarship recognizes outstanding scholar athletes in grade 12 from high schools throughout the U.S.

Summer Biomedical Research Internship Program! Field trip to The Museum of Tolerance/UCLA Attention sophomores, juniors and seniors, there are only about 10 spaces available on a field trip to The Museum of Tolerance and UCLA scheduled for Monday, March 30. This is a one day trip, and the total cost is $35.00. These spaces will be filled on a first come first served basis. Payment in full will be necessary to hold your spot. All films were about University High School with more than 25 films submitted for judging.
All films were judged by the UHS faculty.
The winners in the 30-second film category, were as follows:
In first place, with a $100 prize: Jessica Holiday, Cheyenne LeBlanc and Danny Hiebert.
In second place: Aubrey Pongluelert, Alex Webber, Merideth Webb and Jessica Schmaus.
Tied for third place were the individual films by Tim Anderson and Ethan Castro.
In the 1-3 minute film category the winners were:

Schedule Changes
Attention Students: Schedule changes will only be made for students who need to modify their schedules in order to meet our graduation requirements. We will not be granting schedule changes for the sake of your preference or convenience. For example, we will not be making schedule changes so that you can have a free first period to sleep in or to be in a class with your friends, etc.

Don't forget your gloves, perhaps goggles, water, snacks, and change of clothes. (Remember, no denim or sweatpants.) I recommend wearing what you plan on skiing / snowboarding in. Change at the end of the day. You can bring a backpack but please do not brings things you would hate to lose. There will be elementary, middle school, and home school groups up there also sharing the Mainstream Lodge.
We are on the slopes regardless of weather. Please dress appropriately.

Registration for Spring Classes--Note Room Change
On Wednesday and Thursday students will be sent to Ed 165 (note room change) to register online for their spring Fresno State classes. A schedule has been given to each instructor and students will only be allowed to register during their assigned time.
Students MUST bring their Fresno State ID card in order to register.
Students should also bring their schedule that was given to them on Tuesday so that Fresno State course numbers are available.
2009 Winter Formal Tickets.
Feathers & Fedoras, The UHS Winter Formal is Jan. 24. 7 to 10:30 pm. Tickets go on sale today, $65 for a couple and $40 for a single. 1920's Chicago with all of the gangsters and flappers is the theme. The "Family Meeting" will be at the "Private Restaurant" (International Catering Co.) West and Ashlan. Get your invitation from the office - Before school, after school, or at lunch. Maps are also available.
Field trip to The Museum of Tolerance/UCLA Attention sophomores, juniors and seniors, there are still about 25 spaces available on a field trip to The Museum of Tolerance and UCLA scheduled for Monday, March 30. This is a one day trip, and the total cost is $35.00. These spaces will be filled on a first come first served basis. Payment in full will be necessary to hold your spot. If you would like more information on this trip, as well as a permission slip, please see Ms. Casey in rm LS 169.
Schedule Changes
Attention Students: Schedule changes will only be made for students who need to modify their schedules in order to meet our graduation requirements. We will not be granting schedule changes for the sake of your preference or convenience. For example, we will not be making schedule changes so that you can have a free first period to sleep in or to be in a class with your friends, etc.

9:30-2:30: Lessons, Lunch, free slope time

Don't forget your gloves, perhaps goggles, water, snacks, and change of clothes. (Remember, no denim or sweatpants.) I recommend wearing what you plan on skiing / snowboarding in. Change at the end of the day. You can bring a backpack but please do not brings things you would hate to lose. There will be elementary, middle school, and home school groups up there also sharing the Mainstream Lodge.
We are on the slopes regardless of weather. Please dress appropriately.

California Association of Collectors 2008 Scholarships! The California Association of Collectors is thrilled to announce a scholarship for all California high school seniors for their use at any accredited college, university or vocational school: $2,500 (First Prize), $2,000 (Second Prize), and $1,500 (Third Prize).
The scholarship is based upon a simple one-page application and three to four page essay on "Importance of Establishing and Maintaining Good Credit during Your College Years".

American Planning Association Essay Contest The American Planning Association is pleased to announce our thid annual High School Essay Contest. Summer Biomedical Research Internship Program! An opportunity for students who are interested in the Biomedical Sciences to participate in basic and clinical research in such fields as surgery reconstruction, radiology, basic bench science, and epidemiology. Registration for Spring Classes
On Wednesday and Thursday students will be sent to Ed 157 to register online for their spring Fresno State classes. A schedule has been given to each instructor and students will only be allowed to register during their assigned time. Students MUST bring their Fresno State ID card in order to register.
2009 Winter Formal Tickets.
Feathers & Fedoras, The UHS Winter Formal is Jan. 24. 7 to 10:30 pm. Tickets go on sale today, $65 for a couple and $40 for a single. 1920's Chicago with all of the gangsters and flappers is the theme. The "Family Meeting" will be at the "Private Restaurant" (International Catering Co.) West and Ashlan. Get your invitation from the office - Before school, after school, or at lunch. Maps are also available.
Field trip to The Museum of Tolerance/UCLA Attention sophomores, juniors and seniors, there are still about 25 spaces available on a field trip to The Museum of Tolerance and UCLA scheduled for Monday, March 30. This is a one day trip, and the total cost is $35.00. These spaces will be filled on a first come first served basis. Payment in full will be necessary to hold your spot. If you would like more information on this trip, as well as a permission slip, please see Ms. Casey in rm LS 169.
