Phoenix Alliance is asking each second period class to prepare a "theme" basket to be auctioned off at the 9th annual "Hopelessly Devoted To U........HS" fundraiser planned for April 25.
Every year the class baskets are a highlight of the silent auction! Remember, all funds raised by Phoenix Alliance support UHS students, faculty, programs, and activities!
Parents have generously offered their time and will serve as Theme Basket Class Coordinator and collect interesting items to fill a basket.
Our primary preference is for students to donate items which follow their classroom themes. Gift cards are acceptable as well.

Intensive studio arts program that offers an introduction to art and design school. Three different programs available:
-FINE ART STUDIO: Focus on Figure Drawing and Painting, Mixed Media, or Digital Photography.
-GRAPHIC NOVEL STUDIO: Explore the cultural implications and creative possibilities of Graphic Novel and Comics Art.
-ILLUSTRATION AND DESIGN STUDIO: Students gain solid, working knowledge of the principles of design.
All students have the option of earning three transferable elective college credits. There is no registration deadline, however, each studio track and the entire porgram may be filled by early May 2009.

IEA'S APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM 2009
The Institute for Educational Advancement, a non-profit organization in South Pasadena, CA, is hosting an Apprenticeship Program aimed at providing gifted high school students with hands-on learning experiences in various professions.
Areas include Law & Order, Marketing and Customer Service, Applied Physics, Industrial Design, Biological Chemistry, among others. Students will have the opportunity to work with mentors, interact with peers who have similar interests, and present their work to mentors and peers.
This year's Apprenticeship Program features several sites in Southern California including the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), Art Center College of Design, Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, the Avery Dennison Research Center, the Los Angeles Superior Court, and the Autry National Center.

The Central California Caribbean Association (CCCA) is offering a $300 scholarship to High School Seniors.
Criteria:
-Must be of Caribbean descent and reside in the Central San Joaquin Valley.
-Applicants must intend to enroll as a full-time student at an accredited 2 or 4 year college or university in the fall semester following graduation.
-Must have a minimum GPA of 2.8

CASCWA Scholarship
The San Joaquin Section of the California Association of Supervisors of Child Welfare & Attendance (CASCWA) is awarding eight scholarships to high school seniors!
This award is not necessarily for those who have maintained a 4.0+ gpa, but rather, for those who improved throughout their high school career. They're looking for students who may have had to overcome obstacles and adversity in their lives, including but not limited to personal or family problems.
Students working against the odds to improve themselves are encouraged to apply!

Central Valley Foreign Language Association Scholarship
The Central Valley Foreign Language Association offers six scholarships to seniors who meet the following qualifications:
1) Have completed three semesters of foreign language
2) Has at least a 3.0 GPA
3) Plans to enroll as a full-time student at an accredited college or university
4) Must receive a letter of rec. from a foreign language instructor who is a current CVFLA member.

SCHOLARSHIP
The Sunnyside Property Owners Association (SPOA) is a non-profit association established in 1944 to preserve and promote our neighborhoods. They annually award $2,000 in scholarships to students that have demonstrated academic excellence, performed a significant amount of community service or volunteer work and have resided within the SPOA membership boundaries (Kings Canyon, Temperance, Jensen and Peach Avenues) for the junior and senior year regardless of high school attended.

Phoenix Alliance is asking each second period class to prepare a "theme" basket to be auctioned off at the 9th annual "Hopelessly Devoted To U........HS" fundraiser planned for April 25.
Every year the class baskets are a highlight of the silent auction! Remember, all funds raised by Phoenix Alliance support UHS students, faculty, programs, and activities!
Parents have generously offered their time and will serve as Theme Basket Class Coordinator and collect interesting items to fill a basket.

IEA'S APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM 2009
The Institute for Educational Advancement, a non-profit organization in South Pasadena, CA, is hosting an Apprenticeship Program aimed at providing gifted high school students with hands-on learning experiences in various professions.
Areas include Law & Order, Marketing and Customer Service, Applied Physics, Industrial Design, Biological Chemistry, among others. Students will have the opportunity to work with mentors, interact with peers who have similar interests, and present their work to mentors and peers.
This year's Apprenticeship Program features several sites in Southern California including the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), Art Center College of Design, Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, the Avery Dennison Research Center, the Los Angeles Superior Court, and the Autry National Center.

The San Joaquin Section of the California Association of Supervisors of Child Welfare & Attendance (CASCWA) is awarding eight scholarships to high school seniors!

Central Valley Foreign Language Association Scholarship
The Central Valley Foreign Language Association offers six scholarships to seniors who meet the following qualifications:

2) Has at least a 3.0 GPA

The Sunnyside Property Owners Association (SPOA) is a non-profit association established in 1944 to preserve and promote our neighborhoods. They annually award $2,000 in scholarships to students that have demonstrated academic excellence, performed a significant amount of community service or volunteer work and have resided within the SPOA membership boundaries (Kings Canyon, Temperance, Jensen and Peach Avenues) for the junior and senior year regardless of high school attended.

Congratulations Tiffany Chen Tiffany recently advanced to seminfinalist standing in the YES (Young Epidemiology Scholars) Competition, which is sponsored by the College Board. In order to qualify, Tiffany submitted a 28-page research paper, titled "An Epidemiologic Analysis of Kidney and Renal Pelvis Cancer in California." The next phase of the competition will take place on April 17-20, 2009 in Washington, D.C. In this phase of the competition Tiffany will be required to make a 12-minute oral presentation to a panel followed by 10-minutes of Q&As. Good luck Tiffany!

Intensive studio arts program that offers an introduction to art and design school. Three different programs available:

-GRAPHIC NOVEL STUDIO: Explore the cultural implications and creative possibilities of Graphic Novel and Comics Art.
-ILLUSTRATION AND DESIGN STUDIO: Students gain solid, working knowledge of the principles of design.
All students have the option of earning three transferable elective college credits. There is no registration deadline, however, each studio track and the entire porgram may be filled by early May 2009.

IEA'S APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM 2009
The Institute for Educational Advancement, a non-profit organization in South Pasadena, CA, is hosting an Apprenticeship Program aimed at providing gifted high school students with hands-on learning experiences in various professions.
Areas include Law & Order, Marketing and Customer Service, Applied Physics, Industrial Design, Biological Chemistry, among others. Students will have the opportunity to work with mentors, interact with peers who have similar interests, and present their work to mentors and peers.
This year's Apprenticeship Program features several sites in Southern California including the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), Art Center College of Design, Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, the Avery Dennison Research Center, the Los Angeles Superior Court, and the Autry National Center.

The San Joaquin Section of the California Association of Supervisors of Child Welfare & Attendance (CASCWA) is awarding eight scholarships to high school seniors!
This award is not necessarily for those who have maintained a 4.0+ gpa, but rather, for those who improved throughout their high school career. They're looking for students who may have had to overcome obstacles and adversity in their lives, including but not limited to personal or family problems.

Central Valley Foreign Language Association Scholarship
The Central Valley Foreign Language Association offers six scholarships to seniors who meet the following qualifications:

The Sunnyside Property Owners Association (SPOA) is a non-profit association established in 1944 to preserve and promote our neighborhoods. They annually award $2,000 in scholarships to students that have demonstrated academic excellence, performed a significant amount of community service or volunteer work and have resided within the SPOA membership boundaries (Kings Canyon, Temperance, Jensen and Peach Avenues) for the junior and senior year regardless of high school attended.

Every year the class baskets are a highlight of the silent auction! Remember, all funds raised by Phoenix Alliance support UHS students, faculty, programs, and activities!
Parents have generously offered their time and will serve as Theme Basket Class Coordinator and collect interesting items to fill a basket.

Congratulations Tiffany Chen Tiffany recently advanced to seminfinalist standing in the YES (Young Epidemiology Scholars) Competition, which is sponsored by the College Board. In order to qualify, Tiffany submitted a 28-page research paper, titled "An Epidemiologic Analysis of Kidney and Renal Pelvis Cancer in California." The next phase of the competition will take place on April 17-20, 2009 in Washington, D.C. In this phase of the competition Tiffany will be required to make a 12-minute oral presentation to a panel followed by 10-minutes of Q&As. Good luck Tiffany!

Otis College of Art and Design, located in Los Angeles, will be hosting a College Preparation Program in Art and Design.
Programs include: Animation, Architecture/Landscape/Interiors, Black & White Photography, Digital Media, Digital Photography, Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Illustration, Life Drawing, Painting, Product Design, and Toy Design.
