Safe Jobs for Youth Month 2009 Poster Contest
Design a poster highlighting job safety and health for teens.
Criteria: California teen between 14 to 18 years old
Poster may be up to 17" x 22" and in any language(s). It may also be in any media (pen & ink, collage, paint, print, photography, etc.).

Public Service Announcement (PSA) Contest
Criteria: California teen between 14 and 18 years old
Create a 30 second video! Use your creative talents...dancing, acting, script writing, directing , or even singing to promote job safety for youth in the workplace.
The winning clip will be distributed around California, including theaters and TV!

Ski / Snowboard Session Form Due
Students need to turn in the "UHS Emergency Preparedness and Safety Training" permission form. The CERT coordinators need this form completed in order to provide their curriculum to us on each of the two Wednesdays of the course.

Sierra Summit Ski / Board Winter Course
I hope all are excited about eight days on the slopes!

The Schedule:
6:30: Arrive and take attendance
6:40: Bus arrives and load bus in Lot D
6:50: Bus leaves. We do not wait for late-comers
9:00: Arrive at Sierra Summit
9:30-2:30: Lessons, Lunch, free slope time
2:30: Load bus
3:00: Bus leaves Sierra Summit
5:00: Arrive at Lot D

Don't forget your gloves, perhaps goggles, water, snacks, and change of clothes. (Remember, no denim or sweatpants.) I recommend wearing what you plan on skiing / snowboarding in. Change at the end of the day. You can bring a backpack but please do not brings things you would hate to lose. There will be elementary, middle school, and home school groups up there also sharing the Mainstream Lodge.

We are on the slopes regardless of weather. Please dress appropriately.

Semester Grades
A transcript report will be sent home the 3rd week of January that has all fall semester grades including Fresno State Classes and Winter Session grades. To save on mailings we ask that students and parents look on powerschool to determine fall semester grades. Fall semester grades will be complete by the afternoon of Dec. 23rd for UHS classes. Some professors post their grades on blackboard prior to them being available in January.

California Association of Collectors 2008 Scholarships! The California Association of Collectors is thrilled to announce a scholarship for all California high school seniors for their use at any accredited college, university or vocational school: $2,500 (First Prize), $2,000 (Second Prize), and $1,500 (Third Prize).

The scholarship is based upon a simple one-page application and three to four page essay on "Importance of Establishing and Maintaining Good Credit during Your College Years".

California Wine Grape Growers Foundation Scholarship! To qualify for this scholarship, you must:

Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund! Qualifications:
1. US Citizen or permanent resident

4. Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participating in community services, extra curricular, or other activities.

Scholarship for Students with Financial Needs! KFC Colonel's Scholars is looking for oustanding seniors with financial need and entrepreneurial spirit to qualify for KFC Colonel's Scholar Program. Awards are up to $20,000 for tuition, fees, textbooks, room and board.

To qualify, graduating high school seniors must:
~Minimum high school cumulative GPA of 2.75
~Enroll in a public college or university within their state of legal residence
~Plan to prsue a bachelor's degree
~Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

Miss Teenage California 2009 Competition!

American Planning Association Essay Contest The American Planning Association is pleased to announce our thid annual High School Essay Contest. Two first-place winners will receive a $5,000 scholarship to the college or university of his or her choice and will also be invited to attend one of APA's National Planning Conferences during the years that he or she is enrolled in an undergraduate college or university. Summer Biomedical Research Internship Program! Finals Schedule
Each final is scheduled for 90 minutes. AP classes may schedule longer finals by meeting earlier or running later, check with your teacher. The afternoons are available for makeup finals. Students are released for the day at 12:00. If a college final conflicts with the finals schedule, please arrange an afternoon makeup with your teacher in advance.

A transcript report will be sent home the 3rd week of January that has all fall semester grades including Fresno State Classes and Winter Session grades. To save on mailings we ask that students and parents look on powerschool to determine fall semester grades. Fall semester grades will be complete by the afternoon of Dec. 23rd for UHS classes. Some professors post their grades on blackboard prior to them being available in January.

Newspaper Meeting There will be a final newspaper meeting on Friday, December 12, at 12:15 in Ms. Casey's room (LS169) We will be discussing the first edition of our paper and beginning to think ahead to the next edition scheduled for the end of January. If you would still like to be a part of the newspaper staff, please join us at this meeting. We are still looking for writers and photographers to participate. Also, we are calling for student submissions to future newspaper editions. These could be, but are not limited to creative writing, nonfiction writing, drawing, and cartoons. A transcript report will be sent home the 3rd week of January that has all fall semester grades including Fresno State Classes and Winter Session grades. To save on mailings we ask that students and parents look on powerschool to determine fall semester grades. Fall semester grades will be complete by the afternoon of Dec. 23rd for UHS classes. Some professors post their grades on blackboard prior to them being available in January.

The scholarship is based upon a simple one-page application and three to four page essay on "Importance of Establishing and Maintaining Good Credit during Your College Years".

~Plan to prsue a bachelor's degree

Fresno City College Placement Test Did you miss the Fresno City College Placement Test on Wednesday? We will be hosting another placement test on Wednesday, February 18th from 3:00-5:30pm (room TBA). Remember, in order to attend Fresno City College this summer or next school year you have to take the placement test. See Mrs. Bird or Mrs. Patterson for more details.


Finals Schedule
Each final is scheduled for 90 minutes. AP classes may schedule longer finals by meeting earlier or running later, check with your teacher. The afternoons are available for makeup finals. Ski / Snowboard Winter Course
All but one of the information / rental / permission packets have been handed out.

Students who have not paid the course fees by Monday, December 8 run the risk losing their spots to those on the waiting list or being dropped from the class. Parents with questions or concerns about payment should contact Mr. Roberts.

We will have an informational meeting on Friday, December 12 to answer any last minute questions and to outline the times and routines of events during the course.

Mr. Hagen and I are excited about this opportunity to supervise this course and we both look forward to sharing every bleary-eyed 6:30 morning with you!

We also invite all parents to consider chaperoning for a day or two. The amount of work is low and the enjoyment is high. Students or parents with questions can email me at mroberts@csufresno.edu.


Attention Volleyball Team There will be tryouts for the first UHS varsity volleyball team from 3-4pm Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. You must sign up with Mrs. Hayden for a tryout date. You are not allowed to miss your performing group to tryout. There is no make-up date for tryouts. You must be present either Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday to have an opportunity to play on the varsity team.

Ski / Snowboard Winter Course
All but one of the information / rental / permission packets have been handed out.

Students who have not paid the course fees by Monday, December 8 run the risk losing their spots to those on the waiting list or being dropped from the class. Parents with questions or concerns about payment should contact Mr. Roberts.

We will have an informational meeting on Friday, December 12 to answer any last minute questions and to outline the times and routines of events during the course.

Mr. Hagen and I are excited about this opportunity to supervise this course and we both look forward to sharing every bleary-eyed 6:30 morning with you!

Fresno City College Placement Test Attention all Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors: Fresno City College will be conducting a Placement Test on campus, December 3rd from 3pm to 5pm in room 12. Prior to taking courses at Fresno City College you are required to take this assessment test. Ski / Snowboard Winter Course
Students need to come by Room 4 to pick up the information / rental / permission packet by December 1.

I will also start collecting the course fees on Monday, Dec. 1. Students who have not paid by Friday, December 8 run the risk losing their spots to those on the waiting list.

We will have an informational meeting on December 12 to answer any last minute questions and to outline the times and routines of events during the course.

Mr. Hagen and I are excited about this opportunity to supervise this course and we both look forward to sharing every bleary-eyed 6:30 morning with you!

We also invite all parents to consider chaperoning for a day or two. The amount of work is low and the enjoyment is high. Students or parents with questions can email me at mroberts@csufresno.edu.

Fresno City College Placement Test Attention all Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors: Fresno City College will be conducting a Placement Test on campus, December 3rd from 3pm to 5pm. Mandatory Volleyball Meeting All students who are planning on participating on the UHS volleyball team must come to Monday's meeting at 12:15. This will be a short meeting! Please do not be late! "Air Denison" Program As a small, private, liberal arts college, located in Granville, Ohio, Denison University knows it often can prove to be challenging for potential students to visit their campus. As a result, sevral years ago, the college developed their Air Denison program. Fresno City College Placement Test Attention all Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors: Fresno City College will be conducting a Placement Test on campus, December 3rd from 3pm to 5pm. California Association of Collectors 2008 Scholarships! The California Association of Collectors is thrilled to announce a scholarship for all California high school seniors for their use at any accredited college, university or vocational school: $2,500 (First Prize), $2,000 (Second Prize), and $1,500 (Third Prize).

The scholarship is based upon a simple one-page application and three to four page essay on "Importance of Establishing and Maintaining Good Credit during Your College Years".

California Wine Grape Growers Foundation Scholarship! To qualify for this scholarship, you must:

Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund! Qualifications:
1. US Citizen or permanent resident
2. GPA 2.5 or higher

4. Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participating in community services, extra curricular, or other activities.

Scholarship for Students with Financial Needs! KFC Colonel's Scholars is looking for oustanding seniors with financial need and entrepreneurial spirit to qualify for KFC Colonel's Scholar Program. Awards are up to $20,000 for tuition, fees, textbooks, room and board.

To qualify, graduating high school seniors must:
~Minimum high school cumulative GPA of 2.75
~Enroll in a public college or university within their state of legal residence
~Plan to prsue a bachelor's degree
~Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
~Demonstrate financial need
